Candy Cane Wreath

Amanda made this beautiful candy cane wreath for me for Christmas.

I have no idea where she got the idea for it, but here's a link to one that I found on-line that has super-simple instructions:

If you're looking for last minute gift ideas there's still plenty of time to make a few for family, friends, and neighbors.

Photos don't do it justice. Mine is absolutely beautiful!!!

Until next time...

Master 'To Do' List and Menu Plan Monday - December 12, 2022

Another week has fairly flown by and Christmas Day is less than two weeks away. Can you believe it?

(Note: I would have had this out this morning, but we were without internet for most of the day.)

On Thursday I was invited to make gingerbread houses with some of the grands. I've only made a gingerbread house one other time and it was from a pre-made, packaged kit.

Gingerbread House From 2009

This time, daughter, Amber, made the dough and, using a gingerbread house cutter (like the one below), cut and baked all the pieces herself.

Those of us who were building, constructed and decorated our houses using a variety of icings and candy.

Gingerbread Houses 2022

I think they turned out pretty cute!

A Gingerbread House Flop

Even the flops...like this one. It was one of mine. Half of the roof slid off and the "ridge pole" fell into the interior of the house. I think I had the side walls sitting the wrong direction and that took away the support. Oh, well! It was fun and, no matter how they looked, they tasted great!

Saturday was our annual Family Christmas. We always have it the second Saturday of December because, generally, that's the only weekend that Amanda (youngest daughter) and her family can make it down to join us.

The Grandchildren

This year we decided to have a costume party. Everyone was invited to come dressed as a favorite Christmas character, song, or theme of choice. We had angels and reindeer, a shepherd, a snowman, a candy cane, the Twelve Days of Christmas, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and a whole host of other fun and Christmassy characters! The host and hostess of our party, of course, were Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig!

A few friends and extended family members were able to join us and, honestly, it turned out to be one of the best family get-togethers I can remember. It was laid back and relaxed, the food was great, and there was no stress. I truly enjoyed it and am already looking forward to next year's celebration!

happy to fill in for the afore mentioned bird in a pear tree.)

Now, it's time to take a look at the week ahead. Won't you join me?

Grandsons T.J., Isaiah, and Silas

This week's master 'to-do' list...

- clean house
- do laundry
- plan out the remainder of the Christmas season
- finishing filling out and mailing the last of the Christmas cards
- make and deliver Christmas treats to the guys at work
- go grocery shopping
- get together with family and friends
- say good-bye to another friend
- work

This week's menu plan...

I really have no idea at this point what the week ahead will look like. My refrigerator looks quite empty after making and removing all the dishes for Family Christmas and I need to shop for fresh items. I need to go through my pantry and freezer, too, and see what's on hand. After that, I need to figure out what I have left to do between now and Christmas cooking and baking-wise. After that I will know more.

As for today, though, for breakfast I had THM pancakes (freezer) with vanilla yogurt and sugar-free syrup; for lunch I had chicken strips from Casey's with Chili-Cheese Fritoes. I have no idea what I'm making for supper. 😕

I guess that's it for now. I'll be glad when the internet comes back on so I can get this posted. You have a nice day and a great week ahead and I'll be with you again soon!

Until next time...

Master 'To Do' List and Menu Plan Monday - December 4, 2022

It's a foggy morning here on the tallgrass prairie of Southwest Missouri...47 degrees and cloudy, but still not bad for the first the week of December.

My Favorite Christmas Video
(I look forward to waching this all year long!)

How was your week and weekend? My week ended on a good note here. I got paid, ran errands, and paid bills on Friday; I worked at the park on Saturday. Sunday evening my boss and his fiance came over for supper. We had a nice visit and I enjoyed the evening very much!

Now, here it is Monday morning, and the week ahead promises to be a full, but fun one. Let's take a look, shall we?

This week's master 'to do' list...

- clean house
- do laundry
- make a detailed plan for the week
- run errands
- go grocery shopping
- make a gingerbread house
- finish writing and mailing Christmas cards
- enjoy Family Christmas with my children and grands

My Second Favorite Christmas Video
(I save this one for the Christmas season, too!)

This week's menu plan...

This week my plan is to focus on fresh items (apples, oranges, potatoes, onions, and spinach) and frozen items (turkey breast, red beans, homemade pizza, Good Earth Rolls, wheat bran muffins).

Possible meal ideas include muffins and yogurt for breakfast, slices of pizza for lunch, Guatemalan Red Beans and RiceChicken With Black Beans and Rice (using chopped turkey instead of chicken, of course), or Turkey and Lentil Soup for supper.

I've also got a leftover turkey burger and two packages of cream cheese that need to be used. I will probably have the turkey burger for lunch or supper today with homemade oven fries and figure out something to use the cream cheese in for Family Christmas.

Well, that's it for today on my end! How is your Monday going? Have a nice day and a great week ahead!

Until next time...
Rebecca

Thursday Things - December 1, 2022

It was a cool, cloudy, and gray day here in southwest Missouri. Now, the day is about over and I'm having a cup of tea before winding down for bed.

First thing this morning I made a batch of rolls to divide, and put in the freezer; after that I started wrapping Christmas gifts. I really need to get on the stick though. Family Christmas is coming up a week from Saturday.

I still need to figure out a few odd-and-end last minute gifts for the grands, go thrift-store shopping in hopes of finding an ugly sweater, and figure out what foods I'm going to take along for the potluck.

How about you? How's your week going? How was your day? And how are your Christmas preparations coming along?

Until next time...

Evening Journal - Tuesday, November 29, 2022

It's getting late, but I thought I'd pop in for just a bit before heading for bed. Have you had a good day?

Christmas Tree in My Bedroom

~ What Time It Is...

... 10:20 p.m.

~ What I'm Doing...

... taking a break and having a cup of tea before bed.

~ I Am Praising The LORD For...

... another opportunity to spend time with my girls this afternoon.

~ Things That Made Me Smile Today...

... bumping in to an old friend in an unexpected place at an unexpected time and just moments ago I discovered that it's snowing!!!

~ What I Did Today...

... Amanda had to return Kayla to her biological mother after the Thanksgiving holiday, so, afterwards Amber and I met her and Alysia for lunch in Nevada. We stopped at Dollar Tree, Walmart, and Wood's Supermarket while in town to pick up a few groceries and other things. After I got home I decided to bite the bullet and put up a couple of Christmas trees. I'm not putting the big one up this year because of the kittens, but I did put up two smaller ones...one in the kitchen and another in my bedroom. I just hope the kittens leave them alone and don't wreak havoc. Time will tell! 😁

~ My Evening Prayer...

... that the Lord's peace would settle upon loved ones that have lost family members this week and that He would strengthen, encourage, and comfort them in whatever way they need. Please put the Staub/Pennington/Genser families after the loss of Grandma Staub and the Chiles/Vansel/Burkenbile families after the death of my ex sister-in-law, Shirley. Thanks so much!

~ What's For Supper...

... actually...I didn't have supper tonight...just sort of snacked.

How about you? How was your day? What did you accomplish? What was on the supper plate for you and yours?

Until next time...
