(Who And) What Are You Slaying (I Mean Saying) With Your Words?

Proverbs 18:21 tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Obviously, our mouths don't know how to speak right, life-giving things on their own. They require training. Proverbs 16:23 tells us that, if we are wise, we will "teach" our mouth and the only place we're going to find the truth to teach it is in God's Word (the Holy Bible).

God's Word in our mouths is the most powerful weapon that we have against the accuser. In fact, Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God's Word is stronger than any two-edged sword. The beauty is, that sword of truth can be used in any battle that we are engaged in at any time...even when the battle is within ourselves.

Isaiah 49:2 tells us, "He made my mouth like a sharp sword..."
We are to speak God's Word...over our life situations, over our families, and over ourselves!

But, keep in mind, words can be used on the wrong side of the battle line, too. Proverbs 12:18 says, "There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health."

What words are you saying with your mouth? Are you speaking life into the life situations that you face each day? Are you speaking health and healing into your family? Into yourself?

If not, begin to turn the situation around today by filling up on God's Word. Open it up, read it, and ask the Lord to speak to you through its pages. Then, purposefully, begin teaching your mouth to speak right words, declaring the goodness of God at every turn.

Until next time...

The Beauty of Jesus Revealed in the Feasts by Daniel Krebs and Darlene Schacht - A Review and Book Study Announcement

The Beauty of Jesus Revealed in the Feasts

I, not only had the privilege and honor, but also the blessing of proofreading and editing this book before it came out just a few short days ago, and I found the parallels between the Biblical feasts and the fulfillment of them in Christ Jesus absolutely fascinating!

I appreciate the fact, too, that Pastor Krebs and Mrs. Schacht addressed the subject matter from a Biblical point of view, rather than what's often popular within the modern church of our day. This book is refreshing and will take you back to the foundations of our faith in a clear and concise way.

Beginning November 20, 2017, co-author, Darlene Schacht of Time-Warp Wife will be hosting a study over The Beauty of Jesus Revealed in the Feasts. For anyone who orders the book before November 10th, Mrs. Schacht is offering a free downloadable copy of the accompanying study guide! For details click HERE.

On her site Darlene Schacht writes....

To understand the holy days is to appreciate and recognize the heart of God. In The Beauty of Jesus Revealed in the Feasts, we take an in-depth look at the holy feasts set forth by the Lord Himself. You might be learning all of this for the first time, or you may already know how the life of Jesus and future world events are clearly expressed in the feasts. In any case, there are new things to learn each time we open God’s Word.
Here’s a brief overview of the 7 feasts that we’ll be discussing:
  • Passover – Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross
  • Feast of Unleavened bread – Jesus’ death and burial
  • Feast of First Fruits – Jesus’ resurrection
  • Feast of Weeks – The birth of the church
  • The Feast of Trumpets – The rapture of the church
  • The Day of Atonement – The tribulation period
  • The Feast of Tabernacles – The physical return and reign of Jesus on the earth
When we dive deeper into studying these holy days, we discover some incredible truths that have been ingrained in the traditions of these special ceremonies that clearly point to the beauty of the Messiah.
FYI, there’s nothing girly about this book. ðŸ˜‰ Pastor Dan and I ensured that it would be a great study for both men and women alike. So if you have a husband you want to study with or a small group from church–that’s perfect! I got to thinking that it would also be a great study for homeschooling at the high school level. And of course, it’s perfect for personal study as well. We dig deep into scripture, but it’s easy to follow. ðŸ™‚

7-Week Study

Here’s the thing… our 7-week study is going to bring us right into the Christmas season. I wasn’t sure what to do about that. Would I wait until the new year, after you’ve waited so long already? Or, should we dig in before Christmas, take a break, and resume the study in January? After much thought and prayer, I’ve decided that God gave me this completion date for a reason, so I’m going to trust Him and start our study in just a couple of weeks.
So, we’ll begin on November 20th.
Passover – November 20th
Unleavened Bread – November 27th
First Fruits – December 4th
Feast of Weeks – December 11th
Feast of Trumpets – December 18th
Day of Atonement – January 2nd
Feast of Tabernacles – January 8th

Five Minute Friday - BLESSING

Five Minute Friday a free write, which means, as our hostess, Kate Motaung, says, "...no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation. Just write."

This week's prompt is: Blessing.

Go!

Each and every one of us experience trials of various kinds as we travel life's pathway, but, oftentimes, what at first appears to be hard-times pressing in upon us, will actually turn out in the end to be a blessing in disguise...if we will allow it to be.

We're in the middle of a situation like that right now. What would have been perceived in our hearts and minds as a minor catastrophe a few years ago, is today considered an opportunity to step up to the plate, accept the challenge, and overcome through careful planning, self-control, and perseverance. Our attitude and who and what we put our faith in has everything to do with how it will all turn out in the end.

Is our attitude toward the trial or situation we face today positive? Are we purposefully looking for the good and speaking the truth of the Word over our situation? Or is our attitude negative? Are we making what's an already bad situation worse with our grumbling, griping, and complaining...always looking at what's wrong in a situation rather than what's right with it?

Our attitude and resolve here is firm - we can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth us (Philippians 4:13) - and our faith is in God and His Holy Word - (not the world around us and its ability to make or break us) because, in reality, God's Word is the only Truth that there is in this world and in it is the wisdom and direction that every one of us need to overcome in every life circumstance that we face.

By purposefully choosing to take this kind of attitude and a stand on God's Word we are already seeing the positives in this situation and we receive it with joy. We are excited to see what kind of adventures await us in the coming days and weeks. We are actually thankful for this situation and receive it as a blessing from God.

If you're facing a situation today and the enemy is trying hard to get you over into fear about it, don't fall for it! Get into the Word and walk in the blessing!

Stop!

Until next time...

Movie Review - Mom's Day Out

Mom's Night Out
For Mother's Day our daughter and son-in-law surprised us by taking us out to see the endearing, faith-based, family comedy Mom's Night Out. And I tell you what...I have not laughed that hard since I don't know when. Funny? Yes! But...more than that...ohmygoodness! It is so true to life!

The story focuses on Ally (Sarah Drew) and her stressed out friends...best friend, Izzy (Andrea Logan White), and pastor's wife, Sondra (Patricia Heaton), each of whom is battling their own unique set of circumstances within the home.

The girls get together in hopes of connecting as adults, and treating themselves to a special evening out, but, instead, the evening is interrupted by a chain of events that totally unravels the girls' nerves. Although the events that transpire are totally unlikely to happen in real life (at least not altogether in a single series in the space of one evening), they are comical (make that hysterical) and perfectly in line with great comedy throughout the ages.

Mom's Night Out is a fun movie that sprinkles glimmers of spiritual truth throughout and, in the end, leaves you, as a mom, knowing that you are not alone in your struggles and that, no matter how you perceive them, people are just people. For that reason alone, that makes Mom's Night Out one of the best movies ever in this mom's opinion!

And, as funny as it was, the humor really isn't what makes the movie. It's the fact that the story captures the true heart of parenting. Whether small children or teens, at different stages, and in different seasons, we all face our individual battles in parenting. This movie brings the very things that each and every one of us face on a daily basis, in real life, and puts them into perspective.

Oh, I know! I've heard that critics everywhere are bashing Mom's Night Out, but, you know what? They can bash away! I, personally, have lived Ally's stay-at-home, Christian, homeschooling-mommy life, and know countless others who have done (or are doing) the very same thing right now. THIS is the stuff that REAL life is made of, Ladies, and I cannot praise the makers of this film enough for knowing our hearts, taking all this on, and bringing this movie to fruition for our enjoyment. WHAT a breath of fresh air!!!

If you haven't seen Mom's Night Out yet, grab a friend, and/or take the children, and go see it! You will NOT regret it!

Until next time...

All My Love,
~Rebecca

Book Review - The Virtuous Life Of A Christ-Centered Wife

The Virtuous Life Of A Christ-Centered Wife

The book has 130 pages and is divided into 18 lessons. When it first arrived my plan was to do a chapter a day, making it an 18-day study. But, shortly thereafter, I discovered that Darlene was hosting a twice-weekly study on her website, so I decided to follow along and finish up the study with the group.

I enjoyed the study very much. Each lesson, which is fairly short and easy to read, focuses on a different virtue of Biblical womanhood. Each lesson offers applicable and inspiring ways to grow closer to God and your husband, and each concludes with the S-O-A-P (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) method of study, which encourages you to dig deeper into God's Word and apply what you've learned to your own marriage.

I recommend The Virtuous Life Of A Christ-Centered Wife to wives everywhere who seriously desire, and are willing to pursue, a Christ-centered marriage, and I know that you will enjoy Darlene's honesty and transparency as much as I do.

"I'd rather be a crown than a trophy wife;
I'd rather have virtue than vogue."

The Virtuous Life of a Christ-Centered Wife is written in the format of an 18-part study for daily or weekly reflection.

Not only is it a powerful tool for personal growth, it's also an ideal study-guide for small groups!

Each lesson leads you through one virtue at a time, offering you applicable and inspiring ways for a wife to grow closer to God and her husband. The virtues discussed are these:

*Purity
*Self-control
*Love
*Diligence
*Patience
*Kindness
*Humility
*Faith
*Forgiveness
*Joy
*Passion
*Radiance
*Encouragement
*Balance
*Goodness
*Trust
*Courage

Taming The Tongue

It seems that one of the biggest problems that we, as women, face (myself included) is controlling our tongues. Do we not realize that God sees and hears all, and that we will be held accountable for every idle word spoken?

In Matthew 12:36 and 37 Jesus tell us, "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men (and women) shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by they words thou shalt be condemned."

In the book of James we find that true faith is evidenced by our words. James 3:3 and 4 liken our tongues to the bit in a horses's mouth, or the little rudder that controls a whole ship. Verses 5 through 12 go on to say, "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue amongst our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitued of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren (my sisters), bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh."

The footnote I have on James 3:6 says, "James emphasizes our inclination to sin in our speaking. Sinful speaking includes harsh and unkind words, lying, exaggeration, teaching false doctrine, slander, gossiping and boasting. Mature believers keep their tongues under control by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, taking "into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10:5). Because of the tendency to sin with the tongue, James exhorts every person to "be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath" (1:19)."

What kind of things do we harbor deep down in our hearts? What kind of dark things lurk there? In Matthew 12:34 Jesus reminds us that "...out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh."

Do you ever think about that? I do. I have always had trouble controlling my mouth, especially in times of turmoil, upset, and stress, and, on many occasions...even just recently...I have said terrible things that I have had to go back and apologize, and ask forgiveness, for. I realize full well that I cannot move forward in my walk with the Lord if this is the route that I continue to choose to take over and over again. And when we choose to just say what. ever. without keeping our tongues in check, it makes us look spiritually ridiculous, and, because we are His witnesses on earth, it puts a black mark on Jesus, too.

I invite you to take a moment today to talk to the Lord about your own tongue and what it's been saying lately. Let us pray for one another and recommit our lives, and our tongues, to the Lord's service.

A good rule of thumb to follow is the words of Philippines 4:8...

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

I challenge you to judge the conversations that you have with others by Biblical criteria. When your phone rings, or when you're visiting with someone in your home, or theirs, or elsewhere, ask yourself these questions, "Is it true? Is it honest? Is it just? Is it pure? Is it lovely? Is it of good report?" If it's not, then don't be afraid to speak up and say, "I don't want to hear this."

And, keep in mind, like I said earlier, no matter what you, or I, or any of us say, or do, God sees and hears all. Someday we WILL give an account for the words we speak, and the actions we take, today.

Why do you think God called us, as women, to be keepers of the home? I Timothy 5 gives us the answer. Sins of the mouth were (and still are) so serious that the church was to refuse widows under the age of 60 (see verse 9). In verses 11-15, Paul tells Timothy, "But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. For some are already turned aside after Satan."

Wow!  Idle? Wandering about from house to house? (This doesn't necessarily have to be physically either...modern communication...the telephone, chat boxes, texting...all these things have made wandering from house to house, oh! so easy!) Tattlers? Busybodies? Speaking things they ought not? Is THIS the kind of women we want to be? Is this the kind of women we are CHOOSING to be? Is this the kind of witnesses that we're making for the One Who shed His blood for us? And, even if it has been in the past, or is at present, does it mean that it has to continue? Of course not! There is no time like the present to repent of sins of the tongue and turn that ship around!

Until next time...

All My Love,
~Rebecca <3
