Trim Healthy Mama - 'Sip The Shrinker' Laura's Way

'Sip The Shrinker' Laura's Way
With way too much going on, this past week has not been the best week for staying on plan with the Trim Healthy Mama...BUT...despite all that I've discovered the most wonderful and amazing concoction and I've got to share it with you! It's the great-tasting, fat-burning Sip The Shrinker drink from THM...sort of.

I tried Serene's original recipe, but, must admit, I really didn't know what I was doing and didn't care for what I came up with. (I think I added way too much cayenne pepper for one thing!) Then, I received an e-post from my dear friend, Laura Lane, over at Harvest Lane Cottage. Laura has lost, and kept off, 50 pounds thus far with the THM. (Good job, Mama!!! Rebecca gives Laura a high-five) Laura stated in her post that this drink was a big help to her during this time of weight-loss. She also stated that she, too, had started out with Serene's original recipe, played around with it a bit, and came up with her own version of the Sip The Shrinker drink. It is Laura's version that I use and share with you here today. I've had my two-quart quota almost every day since discovering it and it is wonderful!!!

And, while I, personally, have never been to one of those high dollar specialty drink stores, I do imagine that this drink is similar to something that one might find on the menu there. A frappe, or an iced latte, maybe? I don't know. I've never had either, but I can imagine, and I'm guessing that this is something along that line. Either way, it is absolutely delicious! It keeps me from snacking all day and it has totally taken away my desire for any kind of soda.

'SIP THE SHRINKER' (Laura's Way)

(Makes 2 quarts.)

3 to 4 Oolong tea bags steeped in a large mug (steep until tea reaches room temperature)

Remove tea bags and put cooled tea in blender. (I save my bags and use them a second time.)

To cooled tea in blender add:

1 cup unsweetened almond milk
a pinch of sea salt
1 teaspoon caramel flavoring (I use Watkins)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Truvia to taste (I use 8 packages)

Blend on high for just a few seconds. This makes your Shrinker concentrate. Divide contents equally between two quart jars and store in fridge until ready to drink.

When ready to drink, fill jar with ice and enough water to fill to top Then, sip on it until it's gone. You can add extra water and/or sweetener as needed. Stir or shake each time you take a drink, because the cinnamon and cayenne tends to settle to the bottom.

This drink is called a Shrinker because it actually burns calories by raising your thermogenic temperature.

Until next time...

All My Love,
~Rebecca

  1. I am almost finished with the THM book and LOVE the facebook! I wasn't sure I would enjoy the Shrinker but I did! I am drinking the original version and I'm not a huge caramel fan but my daughter IS and I think she would fall head over heels for this!

    1. That's great that you're almost finished with the book. We're still plugging along slowly here. There's a lot in there! :) I'm not a huge caramel fan, either, and didn't know if I'd like it or not, but, to me, it tastes like drinking a liquid Wurther's candy! If your daughter likes caramel...yep! She's gonna love this! Thanks for dropping in and commenting! Have a blessed day! <3

  3. I can't find Oolong tea. Does that matter? I found some tea with cinnamon and thought that might be okay. Yuck. I tried warming it up and it was a little better. I'll try the caramel. Where to get the tea?

    1. Yes, I really do think it matters. Not sure where you're at, but the only place we've found it locally is at a place called Fox Farms in Joplin, MO. It's a natural health food store. And I'm sure you can google it and buy online. Good luck finding it. It's so yummy! <3

  4. Thank you for the recipe diversion! I love the THM book- but its so thick! I wrote them and asked them could they give me a skinny version of it! With work and owning my own company- I barely have time to read, so I read it in moments! lol

    1. You are so welcome, Denise! Yes, I love the book, too, but must admit, I've not finished it all yet and, what's worse, I've fallen off the wagon. Am trying to get back on though. So glad you stopped in and commented. You've actually served as a second confirmation for me today...so...thank YOU! Have a blessed rest of the week!

    2. Do you have to use almond milk? I'm allergic to it. TIA

    3. I would say you could use whatever works best for you. I've graduated to cashew milk myself and love the extra creaminess of it.

  6. May I add to this. I did not like the shrinker either, but have since started making my own Almond (or sometimes Cashew) milk. That makes a big difference to me. I also think it had too much vanilla originally, don't know what it was. So my version of your (Laura's :) ) recipe is to use Roobios tea and Oolong. The Roobios tea has a delicious flavor and has no caffeine with it's own health (weight loss included) benefits. I have found Oolong tea in Big Lots (not frequently though) and also found a "Vanilla Chai" version of Roobios there the last time. So I just made the shrinker using this recipe, with this change... 4 Roobios Chai and 1 Oolong. I realized my Chai had pepper in it, so just added a shake more. I also used less caramel (too much and I don't like things) but will add a drop more to my jars when I drink this. Thank you! PS One of the sisters did write about Roobios, but if you google it you will see how good it is for you. Be blessed on this journey, I am working myself back on track, drifted a little off course. PS This is automatically calling me annonymous... I am Cindy Hannon and using my wordpress account, guess your blog spot doesn't like wordpress lol.

  7. How many cups a day would you say it is safe to drink, or does it even matter?

    1. I've never thought about it, Tica, and couldn't really say. As for myself, I stick to one quart (1/2 recipe) per day when I do drink it.

    2. I drink a quart of The Shrinker in the morning and in the afternoon, drink a quart of Good Girl Moonshine.

    3. That's pretty much what I've been doing lately, too, Suzette...except the other way around. I drink of GGMS in the morning and the shrinker in the afternoon. :)

  8. is there something else I can use other than oolong tea as a base? I can't stand the tast of tea.

    1. You might pose that question on one of the THM Facebook pages and see what others suggest. The oolong tea is all I've ever used.

    2. I also hate tea, but I tried the Shrinker for the first time today and find you can barely taste it. I think the cinnamon, vanilla and Cayenne pepper really masks the tea taste. I think I may try switching the vanilla with almond flavoring though, to make it a bit more appealing. Has anyone else tried to do this? If so, what were your results?

  9. Hey I just started thm and I was wondering if I could add a little heavy cream to this drink, just to thicken it up a little??

    1. I'm no expert on any of this, but I don't see why you couldn't. Let us know how it works! :)

    2. You could, but it would make it an S drink, something that needs to be drunk with a meal, rather than the all-day, whenever-you-like sipper that it is now.

  11. Does increasing the milk from the original recipe cause this to go into FP mode? I have read that from admins on Facebook sites. I hope not because I only like your version.
