Happy Homemaker Monday - February 4, 2019

Good morning, Dear Ones! Happy First Monday of Febuary! 💗

I'm up early this morning (very unusual for me on a Monday) and am raring to go! It's still pitch dark outside, so I am sitting here enjoying my tea and working on this post by candlelight. (I love candlelight and oil lamps early in the morning and late at night. They glow so gently and create an old-fashioned atmosphere. Does anyone else here enjoy that?) How was your week and weekend?

Our week and weekend were good here and very productive. I got the taxes filed this week, walked every day, and worked Friday and Saturday at the park. Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, so, after church yesterday, we spent the afternoon outdoors and got quite a few things done (or, at least, started) around the place.

After lunch, the first thing I did was take my car to the car wash. (It needed it so badly!) I washed it, vacuumed the inside, and Armour-alled the vinyl. Driving on gravel roads does, indeed, take its toll and the poor thing hadn't been washed in over a month.

After that, I got the rosebush pruned; then, John and I, finally, got that pile of wood and stuff moved that my dad had stacked behind the garage. In the process of moving it, it released a lot of young cherry trees that were bent and growing out from under the edge of it. Perhaps now they will straighten and grow straight, replacing the old tree that blew down last spring.

After that, I started cleaning my dad's garage. He will have been gone three years come May and everything in there is exactly as he left it (other than our lawn mowers and things being in there now...but his workbench and tools and such are right where he left them the last time he used them). All I did yesterday was throw away trash (empty bottles, parts catalogs, receipt books, old sacks, bags, and boxes, etc.). At some point I will dig into the rest of it, but, for now, it was enough.

After that, I went for a walk in the neighborhood. This is one of the things I saw along the way...

Winter Wildflowers Along Pond's Edge
Well, dear ones, it's a brand new week and it's time to get on with it! Won't you join me as I join Sandra at Diary of a Stay At Home Mom and all the other lovely ladies that make up the Happy Homemaker Monday crew?

Today I am joining Sandra and the other ladies over at Diary of a Stay At Home Mom
for Happy Homemaker Monday. Please be sure to go over and check it out! 💗
Right now I am...

... finishing up breakfast and enjoying a cup of hot tea while working on this post.

Am thinking...

... about the day, week, and month ahead, as well as, friends and family members that are going through various trials and facing health issues today.

On the breakfast plate...

...fat-free turkey breast slices, egg, and cheese on sprouted bread, Mandarin oranges, and hot tea

The weather...

...for February in Missouri...GORGEOUS!!! Yesterday it was 67 degrees and very windy; today...at the moment...it is 57 and partly cloudy. We'll top out at 58 with rain, then, throughout the day, temperatures are supposed to drop back into the mid-30's by tonight. The ten-day forecast doesn't look too bad with highs in the 50's through Thursday, then colder after that with highs in the 30's and 40's. Still...not bad! It could be much worse for sure!

On the menu this week...

This week's menu will focus on leftovers in the fridge, fresh items, and long-time freezer and cabinet items.

baked chicken breasts, baked potatoes with cottage cheese, and salad
Friday - broiled salmon on a bed of sauteed yellow squash, oven roasted potatoes, and beets
Saturday - homemade turkey pepperoni pizza
Sunday - leftovers

On my 'to do' list...

Monday - Weekly "home blessing" (am making an attempt to just keep up with whatever needs done during the week as it comes up, then doing a condensed version of the 'home blessing' on Mondays...so far it seems to be working and it's not overly taxing), laundry, HHM post, walk
Tuesday - Walk, help my neighbor with a project that she's working on, work outside if the weather holds; get with dh and figure out our upcoming anniversary plans
Wednesday - Walk, meet oldest granddaughter for lunch (rescheduled from last week); work on a craft project or two

Thursday - Walk; run errands
Friday - Walk, work
Saturday - Walk, work
Sunday - Church; attend 4-year-old grandson, Dante (the 9th), and one-year-old, Kira's (the 11th), joint-birthday party

In the craft basket...

...same as last week...a photo album project, recycled Christmas card crafts, and cloth napkins

One of my simple pleasures...

Walking around our yard observing the changes that take place as the seasons progress and blend from one into another.

Tiny Bluets Blooming In Our Yard Yesterday Afternoon
Something interesting that I watched this week...

The first episode of Snowdonia 1890 on Amazon Prime. In it, BBC Wales takes two modern-day families and transports them back in time to life on the barren hillsides of 19th century Snowdonia. There are only nine episodes in the series and it will be interesting to watch and see how the families progress.

From the camera...

Am anxiously awaiting the soon return of these. It won't be long now. 💗
Prayer Request...

- Pray protection over the unborn babies that have come under siege and are being slaughtered in our nation at an alarming rate. Pray wisdom, direction, and conviction over their mothers and pray over those that are performing these heinous acts and any and all who support it. God forgive them for, surely, they know not what they do. 😢

Scripture passage...

Well, Ladies, that's it for this week! I pray that each and every one of you have a blessed and beautiful New Year, and I'll see you next week! Blessings!

  2. It's felt like spring the past couple of days, Lucy, but I'm sure we'll be getting more winter weather before it's over. Anyway we cut it though, the first day of spring is next month! YEAH!!! Have a great week! <3

  4. Glad you're getting some relief from the cold and snow, Jodi! Spring will be here before we know it! Purple crocuses are some of absolute favorites. They were my mother's favorites, too. Have a nice week! <3

  5. Look at those tiny blue flowers in your yard! Our yard is still mostly different shades of brown now that the snow finally melted. I do have green iris leaves on the side of the house but that's it. Sounds like you got quite a bit done over the weekend. It's very hard cleaning out late parents' belongings, glad you are able to do it in bits as you're ready. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

  6. Yes, the bluets and henbit (what my children referred to as 'bunny ears') are everywhere right now. I'm sure there's still plenty of winter left, but, still it gives us a preview of spring for which I am grateful. My irises are showing new growth, too. Can hardly wait for them to start blooming again! They and the coneflowers are my numero uno favorites! And, yes, it is hard. I bawled part of the time I was out there. I couldn't help it. The last note that my mom left for when they had closed the shop and run to town was still sitting there...right where she left it going on 14 years ago. Dad didn't do away with it after she passed, so there it was. Yes, very, very hard. :'( You have a wonderful week ahead, too, Jean! Love and appreciate you! <3

  7. You are so good to have walked every day! I would love to walk more often, but our winter here in northern Michigan is being brutal right now. I sure can't wait for spring.

  9. I hope you had a GREAT week. I didn't get as much accomplished in blogland as I would have liked and am extremely late visiting everyone - so much so that it's time to post today's almost. I love those tiny blue flowers! It's so hard to clean things like your garage that have so many memories of a loved one. I know I felt guilty for throwing away things of gramps even though they were truly worthless - because he'd cherished them for some silly reason.
