My Autumn Bucket List 2018 - End of Season Update

As you can see, I'm running a bit late here. It is my intention to get all of my end-of-season and year-end bucket lists updated and finished (and my new ones published) over the next several days. I will start with this one...My Autumn Bucket List 2018 (which should have been done a month ago). 😣

Let me begin by saying that it was a really weird fall. First off, the temperatures went from 90 to 30 and it didn't look like we were going to have a fall at all. Then, we got a few, nice, fall-like days and, finally, some color, but, overall, it was not a normal fall at all and a lot of the things that we typically enjoy doing in the fall just didn't happen this year.

So, that being said, I will update the list in the following manner. Things that were accomplished will be crossed through like this and any notes that I want to add will be found in parenthesis and in bold type (like this).

Here goes...

Welcome Autumn 2018

MY AUTUMN BUCKET LIST 2018

1. Write my autumn bucket list
2. Enjoy a juicy, red apple
5. Celebrate autumn birthdays with the grandlittles

Grandson, T.J., and I Celebrating His 12th Birthday

Granddaughter, Mary, and I Celebrating Her 4th Birthday
6. Attend the 43rd Annual Missouri Town 1855 Arts, Crafts, and Music Festival with my cousin, Sara

(This event got rained out and cancelled, so didn't make it this year. Hopefully, next time.) 😞

7. Pick up walnuts with the grandlittles
8. Enjoy donuts and fresh cider at the Louisburg Cider Mill

(This is a sort of kind of. We didn't actually enjoy donuts and cider AT the mill, but we did enjoy donuts and cider FROM the mill. I found Louisburg cider at the grocery store in El Dorado Springs, Missouri, so bought two gallons of it while I was there. Then, my lady boss was kind enough to bring me a half dozen (well...five) apple cider donuts from the mill when she visited there...so...I'm counting it!) 😆

9. Host a wiener roast

(We hosted a bonfire and we served wieners, but we didn't roast them. We did however roast wieners at our son and daughter-in-law's bonfire. So...does that count?)  😏

10. Visit a corn maze
11. Add a new mum to my collection

I actually added two new mums this year, but this one is my favorite!

12. Lead a night hike out on the prairie

Nightfall Looms Large on the Prairie as Our Hike Comes to a End

13. Go on a hayride
14. Go squatchin' with my Aunt Bev
15. Visit a pumpkin patch
16. Hike a new trail
17. Complete the following programs at work:

       (A) Looking at Leaves (library program)

Looking At Leaves

       (B) Wild About Elk (homeschool program)

Wild About Elk
       (C) Bison (library program)

Bison Coloring Pages Embellished With Real Bison Fur
       (D) Wild Cats (library program)

Wild Cats of Missouri Library Program

       (E) Wild Cats (homeschool program)

Miss Rain and Her Beautiful Multicolored Mountain Lion
18. Go camping with my husband
19. Make S'mores

(We got to make these at our son and daughter-in-law's bonfire. Yum!)

20. Pick up pecans in our backyard

(I'm not sure why, but there were no pecans this year. Am thinking that the squirrels might have stripped them from the trees early because there was a lot of squirrel activity in the backyard this year. Fortunately, we still have enough pecans from last year in the freezer to run us this year.)

21. Attend a CWC (concealed weapon class)

Me and My C and C Classmates

22. Make a pumpkin roll
23. Host a cousin's soup and bread night

(Didn't technically do this in the fall, but it has happened since, so I'm counting it! A good time was enjoyed by all.) 💗

24. Build a bonfire

The Family Gathered Around the Bonfire and Enjoyed Its Warmth

25. Aid in working the bison at work (preparing for Jubilee, annual vet checks, and public auction)

This Big Guy Was Getting His Annual Vet Check and He Was Not Happy About It

26. Get a pedicure
27. Harvest marigold seed
28. Carve a pumpkin
29. Make a batch of Pumpkin Streusel Muffins
30. Make a fairy jar

31. Bake a pumpkin pie
32. Visit friends at Pomme de Terre

(Didn't make it to Pomme de Terre to see their new house, but did get together with our friends from there a couple of times or more throughout the season. Always a lot of fun!) 💗

Crazy and Zany...That's Us! 😆

33. Complete a 1940's WWII Ration Challenge

(I'm totally giving up the idea of ever doing this one.)

34. Celebrate National Bison Day at Prairie State Park
35. Lead an impromptu hike on a very frosty morning and observe frost flowers in the field

Frost Flower @ Prairie State Park

36. Enjoy frost flowers in our own backyard

Frost Flower in Our Own Backyard

37. Move the wood pile from behind our garage
38. Complete the final unit in Bible college and graduate from Rhema

39. Celebrate Thanksgiving at our youngest daughter and son-in-law's new home

Our Daughter Always Sets a Lovely Holiday Table

40. Get blinds up on the south-facing windows

(I've had the blinds for ages and, finally, got around to trying to get them up, but discovered that I didn't have any brackets (come to find out they are sold separately), so...needless to say...I STILL don't have them up!) 😩

So...that's it for my Autumn 2018 end-of-season update. Did you make an autumn (or winter) bucket list? If so, I'd love to read it! Feel free to share the link to it in the comments below!

Until next time...

Happy Homemaker Monday - January 21, 2019

Greetings, Dear Ones! Happy Monday! I hope that your week is off to a GREAT start! 💗

How was your week and weekend? Ours was good here!

Monday was spent cleaning, doing laundry, running errands, and a whole host of other things. At the end of the day I said, "Something's got to change!"

Mondays used to be the calmest day of the week...thus the reason for designating it as my cleaning and laundry day...but, here lately, it's been as crazy as every other day, so I'm thinking that, starting now, I need to reevaluate my schedule and redistribute my chore list in some other way. I'm not sure what that is at the moment, but I'm working on it.

On Tuesday we joined family for brunch, then spent the rest of the day at home working on and finishing up things that we didn't get done Monday (i.e. - cleaning out the fridge and doing a food inventory).

Brunch @ Daughter and Son-in-Law's
On Wednesday I presented two library programs and, believe it or not, I forgot my Ipod, so no pics! 😲 (Very unlike me!) But both classes went well and the children seemed to enjoy them. I read the book Animals in Winter by Henrietta Brancroft and Richard G. Van Gelder and the children made peanut butter pine-cone feeders to take home and hang for the birds. 🐦

I worked Thursday and Friday at the park. On Thursday the bison came to the building...which is always a treat (and one that I never get tired of)...and on Friday we were entertained by the antics of an armadillo that spent his day digging for grubs around the nature center. (He was so stinkin' cute!!!) Here is a video of him for you to enjoy!

Saturday I was off...which doesn't happen very often...and, basically, I did NOTHING! 😆 I worked a bit on the blog (responded to comments mostly) and...speaking of comments...

Have any of you been inundated by comments from anonymous commenters? I have...like...three or four posts that seem to be targeted by this group of people...all listed as ANONYOUS...and they just keep posting the same silly comments over and over again. They're nothing bad...just silly...and the same handful of identical comments keep getting posted over and over again on a select three or four posts that have been posted within the last six months to a year. I refuse to publish them and just mark them as spam, but I get really tired of wading through them to get to the REAL comments. Is anyone else having this issue?

In getting back to my weekly update, Saturday night and into Sunday morning we had temps into the teens with windchills near zero. There was no church yesterday morning and in the afternoon I had to run out to the park to take care of a couple of things, but, other than that, the rest of the day was pretty much spent relaxing and taking it easy.

Now, today, here we are! It's Monday again and we're off and running into another beautiful week full of wonderful blessings! Let's get started on it...shall we??? 😊

Today I am joining Sandra and the other ladies over at Diary of a Stay At Home Mom
for Happy Homemaker Monday. Please be sure to go over and check it out! 💗
Right now I am...

...finishing up my morning tea while working on this post.

Am thinking...

...about the changes I want to make in my weekly routine and figuring out ways to streamline things.

On the breakfast plate...

This morning I enjoyed ham, eggs, and toast with a cup of hot tea. We don't normally eat much pork around here, but one of our sons butchered a couple of hogs this past fall and shared some of the meat with us. I've tried to dole it out a little here and a little there and we have greatly enjoyed it as a real treat! 🐖

The weather...

Right now it's 34 degrees, cloudy, and we're under a wind advisory. Despite the super cold temperatures over the weekend, the week ahead looks fairly good with daytime highs fluctuating between 32 and 51 degrees with nights in the 20's. There are slight chances for snow showers on three different days, but all the really bad weather lately has skirted just to our north. I keep waiting for the big snows, but, for us, they're just not happening. 😥

On my reading pile...

Am still reading The Great Buffalo Hunt by Wayne Gard (I'll be reading this one forever...I've designated it as my "only read at work in my spare time" book...which my spare time at work is minuscule, at best...so...oh well...I'm enjoying it that way anyway) and Pioneer Girl  - The Annotated Autobiography by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I have also added God's Will for Your Healing by Gloria Copeland.

Pioneer Girl - The Annotated Autobiography by Laura Ingalls Wilder
On the menu this week...

It's not official (because I'm not posting about it and I should be), but we're in the middle of one our low-spend, clean out the cabinets and freezer challenges. If the meals seem a little redundant or weird...that's why! 😆

Monday - ham and beans with cornbread (freezer)
Tuesday - pasta with meat sauce, salad, and homemade French bread (freezer)
Wednesday - garbanzo bean burgers on thin wheat buns with sweet potato fries
Thursday -
stuffed peppers with black beans and corn
Friday - salmon patties, canned buttered potatoes, and steamed broccoli
Saturday - cheeseburgers and oven fries
Sunday - leftovers

On my 'to-do' list...

Monday - Weekly "home blessing" (am thinking about how to reschedule the work load), laundry, HHM post

Tuesday - Take a friend to her hair appointment, then grocery shopping
Wednesday - Work on a few select projects here at home

Thursday - Might be going to CPR class with oldest granddaughter (not sure about this yet)
Friday - Work
Saturday - Work
Sunday - Church

In the craft basket...

Christmas gifts for next year using recycled Christmas cards. "Thank you!" to those that have saved and sent theirs to me. I appreciate it! 💗

Looking forward to this week...

Catching up on a few things at home and working on this blog.

Something interesting that I watched this week...

Last night's super moon, wolf moon, blood moon, and eclipse combo. It was awesome! Here is a beautiful photograph taken by our youngest son...

Happy Homemaker Monday - January 14, 2018

Good morning, Dear Ones! Happy Monday! 💗

I pray that this post finds you and yours well and hope that your past week and weekend have been a good one for you.

We are well here and our week and weekend was good. The big accomplishment was that we managed to get the Christmas stuff down and packed away for another year (YEAH!!!!) AND I got the Van Gogh room (my office) cleaned and organized (HUGE undertaking), but there is a lot going on right now, so I am going to have to make this post short this morning. What A Busy Week, Month, and Holiday Season It Has Been!

Good THURSDAY morning, Dear Ones!

What a crazy (but enjoyable) week, month, and holiday season it has been here!

I thought I'd get a bit of a break around Christmas, but didn't and the first week of the New Year wasn't much better. There's been some down time, but not a lot compared to most years and, even when I've been home, it's been so busy that I've not had time to do many of the things I normally would be doing at this time of the year...so...here I've been...behind on every front, BUT...I think I'm finally getting a handle on it.

This week has been GREAT! On Monday a couple of friends that I met through work and I had a "history date"...which we've been trying to get to for weeks now and it finally worked out. We visited the Bates County Museum and Battle of Island Mound State Historic Site at Butler, Missouri, toured the town and ate at the historic Swope's Drive-In in Rich Hill, visited the Papinville Bridge at Papinsville, and walked the trail at the Osage Village State Historic site at Walker. It was great fun and we all enjoyed learning more about the history of our great state. We're planning to do another "history date" soon.

Swope's Drive-In in Rich Hill, Missouri

Tuesday and Wednesday were spent taking down all the Christmas stuff and deep-cleaning and reorganizing the Van Gogh room. This is the latest that the Christmas stuff has stayed EVER stayed up (normally, I take it down the day after Christmas) and the house feels empty without it...BUT...I did leave a few lights up in the Van Gogh room so I can keep a little Christmas sparkle going all year long. If it didn't take up so much room I'm pretty sure that I'd leave my big tree up year-round, too! 🎄 😆

When I cleaned and reorganized the Van Gogh room I threw out five of the big, white, kitchen-sized bags full of trash, plus smaller bags to be recycled. A lot of it was old program materials that I no longer needed and containers and things that I had saved "just in case" I might need them for something. I'm not going to need them, so out they went and it feels good! Between that and the five-plus Christmas totes out of here...everything feels rather bare...but I'll get used to it. There's still plenty more that could go, I'm sure!

Another thing I need to work on is this blog. I've got updates to do on my bucket lists (Eighteen in 2018, Fall 2018, and Christmas 2018) and new ones to write (Nineteen in 2019 and Winter 2019), but I will have to fit them in as I can.

Well, I better go. I have much to do. Had planned on going to Lamar today, but it's been a crazy morning and it's really getting too late to head out. I will have to save it for Sunday and do what I need to do here this afternoon. You all have a great Thursday and a wonderful weekend! We're suppose to get snow here over the weekend, so I'm looking forward to that! ⛄

Until next time...

Happy Homemaker Monday - January 7, 2019

Greetings, Dear Ones! Happy First Monday of 2019!

How was your week and weekend?

Our week and weekend were great here! New Year's Eve was spent with our eldest daughter and her husband and children, and our next-to-the-oldest son and his daughters joined us for the evening. We played games and shared in an enjoyable evening of fun, food, and fellowship. At midnight we rang in the new year with fireworks. Well...with one. firework. actually. Our daughter shot one firework off outside her front door at midnight.😆 The whole evening was a lot of fun and we enjoyed it.

New Year's Day was spent at home. A friend had given us a bushel of apples earlier in the season and I had shared well over half of them with others and we used what we could, but what was left was getting to the point that something had to be done with them and soon, so I turned what was left into applesauce. Ended up with a total of five pints.

Applesauce

I got the refrigerator buddies done and mailed out on Tuesday.

Refrigerator Buddies
On Thursday I took grandson, Silas, out in celebration of his 11th birthday. I cannot believe how fast these grandchildren are growing up! 😲

Grandson, Silas, on His 11th Birthday
I worked on Friday and Saturday. Then, it was church on Sunday morning and our annual cousin's soup and bread get-together in the evening. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed getting together with my boy cousins and their families! 💗

Okay...enough about last week! Let's get on into this week, shall we?

Have also added Pioneer Girl  - The Annotated Autobiography by Laura Ingalls Wilder to my pile. Have had it for a couple of years or so now, but am just now getting around to picking it up and reading it.
