Extreme Heat and A Call to Prayer

"Extreme heat is sweeping the country right now with many areas of the U.S. facing temperatures that could feel like 115 degrees with heat and humidity on Tuesday.

As temperatures are heating up from coast to coast, 60 million people are expected to face temperatures in the triple digits in the coming days.

"We have never put a forecast out quite like this," reporter chief meteorologist Travis Herzog on KTRK-TV Houston.

For the first time ever, the Houston forecast predicts 10 days straight of 100 degrees or higher temperatures, and Dallas is on track to break heat records.

"We'll be up around 108, 109, and the record high as it stands 110," said Meteorologist Greg Fields of WFAA Dallas.

Texans are being asked to conserve electricity and water with looming concerns over the power grid's ability to handle the high demand during the high heat."

I'm seeing a lot of reports like this one from CBN and the situation is getting serious. As if things aren't bad enough already (skyrocketing food and fuel prices and the economy in general), if the areas of the U.S.A. that need rain don't get it soon, we are all going to be in trouble in the way of even higher food prices, food shortages, and things that most of us cannot even imagine at this point.

I am asking every single born-again Christian reading this post right now to stop and earnestly pray for rain and a break in these extreme temperatures. Pray over those that have to be out in it (people and animals alike) and do what you can to alleviate suffering in your immediate area. Purchase an extra case or two of bottled water and offer a bottle to those you see along the way that are out working in the heat. Put out fresh water daily for the birds and other animals that pass through your yard or neighborhood.

Call and check on elderly neighbors and, if you know of someone that doesn't have a fan or air-conditioning, do what you can to help. If you can't help, contact someone who can (area churches, housing and utility agencies, law enforcement, etc.) Someone out there will know how to contact the proper people to get help to those in need. Things are getting crazy out there, folks! It's time to come together and start looking out for one another again.

More Snow

Temperatures are warming right up! We're up to a whopping 15 degrees with a wind chill of 8; yesterday at this time we were at -14 actual temperature. That means that, right now, we are nearly 30 degrees warmer than we were at this time yesterday! Wow! Temperatures really are warming right up! 

Our hearts go out to the millions across our nation (especially those in Texas) who are without heat and power right now, as well as to those that are working out in this relentless weather to rectify the problems. We are covering all in our prayers for warmth, safety, protection, and that every need would be met. I wish there was more that we could do. 💔 

Here we are getting the second round of snow that was forecasted. 

Yesterday was beautiful! Cold, but sunny! I went out in the afternoon, cleared my car off, and warmed it up. Then, I ran it back and forth to open up a clear path before the second round of snow. I'm glad I did! I believe that this second round could turn out to be deeper than the first. 

This picture isn't much to look at, but, to the left of the

birdbath is a tire-turned-planter full of prickly pear cactus.

It is completely covered and only the very tip-tops of the

yucca plant behind it can be seen poking up through the snow.

My car was completely clear of snow when we went to bed last night. This is what it looked like when we woke up this morning...

Amber went to town yesterday and was kind enough to pick up and deliver a new 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle for me to work on. It's a painting of a lake scene called Eagle-Eye View. I plan to start on it this afternoon and, working on it between doing other things, it should keep me busy for a day or two. I will post a picture of it when I'm done.

Amber also brought me this beautiful bouquet of Valentine's Day flowers that were on markdown. They're so pretty! 💗

One For The Record Book

I normally don't do two posts in one day, but, this morning, I felt led to do so. Our entire country (practically the whole continent) is in the deep-freeze and I am learning about more and more friends that are suffering hardships due to super cold temperatures and inclement weather. I am thinking about and praying over each and every one of them, as well as, you...my dear readers.

Greetings, Dear Reader! Happy Valentine's Day! 💘

It's a cold (1 degree with a wind chill of -18) and snowy Sunday morning here on the tallgrass prairie of southwest Missouri. We are under a winter weather advisory from now through Monday morning and a wind chill advisory through early Tuesday morning.

We never were able to make it to town to do anything about Valentine's Day or our anniversary, so I got out a box of leftovers from Valentine's Days gone by to see what I could come up with. I ended up printing and decorating Valentines for the grands and daughter, Amber, offered to pick up a few boxes of treats for me to include with them while she was in town. It worked out perfectly!

As for our wedding anniversary (we're celebrating our 33rd today), we aren't going anywhere or doing anything special (yet anyway). I did get up this morning and make banana and chocolate chip oat bran muffins and will figure out something nice to fix for supper.

The grapes are gone. They're dried to hard, little, purple raisins on the vine and even they don't taste good. It makes me sad, but I've got a feeling that there's going to be a lot of that this year.

Good TUESDAY Morning! - 8/2/11 - Heat, Garden, 2011-2012 Homeschool Schedule

Good Morning, Dear Friends!

Just thought I'd pop in early and share a bit. I'm trying to get a jump on the day while it's as cool as it's going to be. Today is supposed to be our hottest yet with temps falling somewhere between 109 to 112 degrees. Please pray for all those that have to be out working in this, as well as for all the animals that have to endure it. It's going to be terribly hot today.

Our garden is just about gone. The only things left are tomatoes and peppers. I put up another 6 quarts of tomatoes yesterday and will work on peppers today. They are small, compared to usual, but they're big enough to work with and they're flavorful. My husband still holds out hope for a nice fall garden, but we'll just have to wait and see. According to our weatherman these excessive temperatures are supposed to continue through August. I pray that he's wrong.

I can hardly believe that we've been at it for 23 years now, but today I start planning our 2011-2012 school schedule. Tony and I are both excited about the subjects that we will be covering this year. They include Kings of the Old Testament, Literary Lessons From Lord of the Rings,  Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University, biology, and World History and Cultures. Today my plan is to lay out a tentative schedule for the first month or so of lesson plans, so...bring on the tea! It's going to be a long day!

Good MONDAY Morning! - 8/1/11 - Current Projects, Heat, Weight-loss Update

Good Morning, Dear Friends!

Life is just whizzing by and it seems like such a long time since I've had a chance to just sit down and visit with you. I thought I'd take advantage of my morning teatime and share it with YOU!

How are you? And how is life in your corner of world?

Here in southwest Missouri we've been busy with several projects...inside and out. My husband has been working for a friend of ours, writing his new Mediterranean Diet homeschool curriculum, and taking care of the garden, while I've been busy deep-cleaning certain areas of our home, preparing for the coming 2011-2012 school year, and canning. Our son is getting ready to help out with VBS at his sister and brother-in-law's church in Minden.

Due to extremely hot temperatures and dry conditions, I think that's canning season is about over with for me. Temps have been in the triple digits as is for weeks, but now things are really getting ready to heat up! Temperatures this week are supposed to be between 105 and 110 every day. Hot! Hot! Hot! And getting hotter! Arrghh!


A while back I shared with you all about my struggles with weight-loss. At that time I had lost 10 pounds and was 8/10 of a pound from reaching my first goal of 247.0 pounds. As of today I am down by 20 pounds, am about ready to go into a size clothing that I've not been in since John and I got married, and am 3 lbs. away of reaching my second goal of 234 pounds by my birthday. I've got almost 2 weeks in which to lose them. Please pray with me that I do it. It's very important to me and, with the Lord's help, I know I can do it! Since the 6th of June I have lost a total of 18 inches.

Well, I would love to share more, but my tea is gone and the day is getting away from me. It's time to go hang sheets on the line and can tomatoes. You all have an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day in the Lord and I will talk to you again soon. God bless all here!
