Master List and Menu Monday - August 24, 2020

Good morning, Everyone! 💗

How was your week and weekend?

Our week was busy and full here with much of it centered on food preservation. I was able to share quite a bit of that with you along the way, so I won't waste time reiterating.

Thursday's "evening stroll" at work went great! Nineteen adventure-seeking folks joined me as, together, we discovered the changes that take place as evening turns to night on the tallgrass prairies of southwest Missouri. Even the coyotes participated by tuning up and singing for us at just the right time! 🐺

Without having anything pressing that needed to be done, Friday ended up being our down day for the week and I worked on Saturday (got to work outside all day which was awesome!).

After church on Sunday, we spent a quiet afternoon and evening at home, and now it's Monday and time to go to work again.

Let's get started on this week's master list and menu plan, shall we?

This Week's Master To-Do List...

- my weekly "home blessing" 🏡
- work
- clean out the fridge 🍗🥬🍉 (didn't get to this last week)
- have company over for supper 🍲
- do laundry 👚
- make bread 🥖
- go to the grocery store 🛒
- host a church movie night 🎥
- chop and freeze onions 🧅
- do some planning 📔
- work on cleaning and organizing the Van Gogh room (a.k.a. my office and, here lately, the catch-all room) 🎨
- read 📖
- write a few blog posts 💻
- do a little geocaching (if we get the time and opportunity) 🧭
- walk daily 👟

This Week's Menus...

We were given a large amount of yellow onions, so, in addition to preserving what I can of them (chopping and freezing), they will be the star of the show in this week's menu plans.

Monday - Breakfast for supper 🥓
Tuesday - Pasta, sauce, meatballs, salad, and homemade bread 🍝
Wednesday - Turkey burgers and no-fry onion rings
Thursday - Grilled cheese sandwiches and onion soup
Friday - Broiled salmon, oven-roasted potatoes, oven-roasted carrots, and scalloped onions
Saturday - Homemade pizza 🍕
Sunday - Leftovers

Well, Ladies, that's it for this time! I pray that all is well with you and yours and that you have a blessed week ahead!

Until next time...

Home Management Monday - July 13, 2020

Good morning all!!!! It's Monday! 💗

How was your week and weekend? Our week was full, but good here!

I worked on Monday; Tuesday was spent working around the house and running errands. Wednesday morning I took grandson, Isaiah, out for a belated birthday treat and on Thursday it was granddaughter, Audrey's, turn. 🥳

Grandson, Isaiah, and I
With the whole COVID thing going on I've not been taking the grands out for lunch for their birthdays like I had been. Instead, we've been running up to Casey's for a treat of their choice, then we go to the park or something and just hang out and visit together.

Granddaughter, Audrey, and I
Most of the grands have been perfectly content with this because they understand that it's more about the time we spend together than it is about where we go or how much money we spend. Some of our best memories are being made this way, because instead of focusing on how to entertain ourselves over a longer period of time, we are focusing on quality time together and good conversation. Plus, we purpose to make it fun and we choose to let it be enough for the season that we are in. 💗

Thursday evening we were invited to Audrey's birthday party (it was a tea party and, as you can see from the photo below, everything was absolutely lovely!) and Friday was spent shopping and running errands with my cousin.

The Table Layout @ Audrey's Birthday Party Was Absolutely Lovely
I worked on Saturday and Papa and I enjoyed time, that evening, sitting with the grands. Sunday afternoon was spent catching up on things around the house. Then, John and I enjoyed a little-bit-longer-than-usual walk in the evening.

Now, I'm ready to face the week ahead with all its ups, downs, joys, and challenges. I do have to be heading to work soon, though, so I guess I better get right on into this post. 😊

I awoke to...

... an early alarm and thoughts of the day and week ahead.

What I'm thinking...

... am thinking about and praying over extended family members that have lost a loved one and the many within our county and community that have tested positive for COVID-19.

What I'm thankful for...

... that, despite the many COVID cases that have been confirmed in our county and community, there have been zero hospitalizations and zero deaths. Praise God for His continued hand of mercy and protection!

On the breakfast plate...

... Fat-free turkey slices, Laughing Cow cheese, and an egg on toast with hot tea

Image may contain: plant, fruit, nature, outdoor and food
Blackberries

The weather...

... right now it's 68 degrees, but the high today is expected to be in the low-90's. After that highs in the upper-90's with more triple-digit heat indexes.

This week's menu plan...

Monday - Breakfast for supper
Tuesday - Chicken fajita tostadas
Wednesday - Half sandwiches, potato soup, and salad
Thursday - Butter and garlic pasta with salad and homemade French bread
Friday - Grilled salmon,
oven-roasted baby carrots, and cheesy zucchini
Saturday - Turkey burgers and oven fries
Sunday - Leftovers

Image may contain: plant, flower, outdoor and nature
Trumpet Vine

On my 'to do' list...

Monday - Finish this post, work
Tuesday - Work
Wednesday - Do the middle-of-the-month budget, go to the bank, run errands
Thursday - ?
Friday - Clean house, do laundry, host our WLMO movie night - Image of the Beast (A Thief in the Night III)
Saturday - ?
Sunday - Church

Home Management Monday - July 6, 2020

Good morning, Dear Ones! 💗

I pray that you and yours had a lovely holiday weekend and that your Monday is off to a great start!

Our week here was full. I worked Monday and filled in for a co-worker on Thursday and Friday. The rest of the week was spent shopping and preparing for the 4th, enjoying time with family and friends, and just relaxing.

This year's Independence Day celebration was one of the best EVER! There was a lot of good food, tons of fireworks, lots of fun, and great fellowship with family and friends. It was altogether a lovely holiday!

Granddaughter Esther
During the course of the evening, we set off two lanterns...one in memory of Gina (6/6/20); the other in memory of Josh (6/19/20). Both passed from this life way too early and neither will ever be forgotten. 💔

On Sunday we were invited back to our daughter and son-in-law's for another round of fun and fellowship in celebration of grandson, Isaiah's, 9th birthday.

Grandson Isaiah
Isaiah's other set of grandparents spent the weekend, too, so it was great getting to spend time visiting and catching up with old friends and extended family.

My Friend, Darla, and I

Little did Darla and I know, when we first met thirty-some-odd-years ago, that God had some awesome plans in the works! We went from co-teaching Bible School and Wednesday night 'Camp-Can-Do' sessions to being mothers-in-law and grandmas together! What a mighty God we serve!

Well, I've got to be heading to work shortly, so I better get right on into this post. 😊

I awoke to...

... cloudy skies and a determination to get up and get going even though I still felt tired and probably could have used some more sleep. 😴

What I'm thinking...

... that, even though it was tons of fun, I'm glad that the holiday weekend is over and, hopefully, things will be in more of a normal routine this week. I ate way too much food over the weekend and didn't walk at all. It's time to get with it!

What I'm thankful for...

... that the garden is finally starting to produce. The tomatoes are loaded and John picked our first zucchini last night.

Tomato Plants Planted Along South Side of House

The Tomatoes Are Hanging In Bunches Like Grapes
On the breakfast plate...

... fat-free turkey slices, a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese, and an egg on toast and watermelon wedges.

The weather...

... hot and humid. Over the weekend we had a couple of major downpours that came out of nowhere...then...as fast as they came, they left and the sun would be shining. Looks like we might be in for more of the same throughout the foreseeable future.

This week's menu plan...

This week's menus will focus on cleaning up leftovers and fresh foods that need to be eaten as soon as possible. I will freeze what I can, but the rest will be featured at mealtimes...breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacktime.

Monday - Taco salad
Tuesday - Rachel sandwiches with oven-roasted sweet potato fries
Wednesday - Chicken leg quarters, brown rice, and cheesy sauteed zucchini
Thursday - Turkey burgers and oven fries
Friday - Grilled salmon, baked potatoes, and oven-roasted carrots
Saturday - Dh's night to cook
Sunday - Leftovers

On my 'to do' list...

Monday - Work, finish this post
Tuesday - Clean house, do laundry
Wednesday - Get in a good visit with my BFFF and sit with the grands
Thursday - Celebrate granddaughter, Audrey's, birthday
Friday - Take a family member grocery shopping
Saturday - Work
Sunday - Church

Home Management Monday - June 29, 2020 (The Late Edition)

Good Evening, Dear Ones! 💗

Can you believe it? It's the last Monday in June and, just like that, we're already half way through the year. Incredible! 😲

I tried to get up early this morning to get this post out before  work, but I just couldn't make it up...so...even though it's late, I'm working on it tonight and hope to get it posted before midnight.

How was your week and weekend? Our week here whizzed by in a blur. I worked on Monday, but had the rest of the week off (other than the hike on Thursday night).

Our family celebrated two birthdays this past week and we will be celebrating four more come July! 🎉🎂🎈

A group of 25 came out for the hike at Battle of Island Mound Thursday evening and we had a great time! What a beautiful evening it turned out to be!

Our youngest daughter surprised us Friday night by making it to her sister's house just in time for granddaughter, Essie's, birthday party (we didn't expect to see her until the funeral on Saturday), so that made the get-together extra special!

Granddaughter Essie

As hard as it was to say good-bye, Josh had a beautiful send-off on Saturday. It was a blessing to see what an impact his life had made on others and I am excited to see where that impact leads in the future. Please continue to remember his family in your prayers. 🙏

On Saturday, before going our separate ways, we (John and I, our oldest daughter, Amber, and her children) were introduced to Lambert's Cafe in Ozark, Missouri by our youngest daughter, Amanda. Lambert's is famous for being "the only home of the throwed roll" and we had so much fun! The children absolutely delighted in catching the throwed rolls and did a good job of doing it, too! 😆 If you ever get a chance to visit Lambert's I highly recommend it!

As late as it is, I guess I better get right on into this post. 😊

I awoke to...

... an early alarm, but reset it and went back to sleep. I just couldn't pull myself out of bed any earlier than I had to this morning and I've been tired all day.

What I'm thinking...

... about the week ahead and my 'to do' list.

What I'm thankful for...

... the freedoms that we enjoy in this country. May we continue the fight to keep them.

On the breakfast plate...

... Fat-free turkey slices, a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese, and an egg on toast with hot tea

Trumpet Vine
The weather...

... hot and muggy. It was 77 degrees when I got up this morning and the high today was around 90. It was also very windy this afternoon.

This week's menu plan...

Monday - Breakfast for supper
Tuesday - Rachel sandwiches (like a Reuben, but made with turkey instead of beef) and oven fries
Wednesday - Taco Stuffed Avocados
Thursday - Oven-roasted chicken, brown rice, and cheesy cauliflower
Friday - Broiled salmon, salad, and cottage cheese
Saturday - Traditional 4th of July foods including hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, watermelon, Jell-O cake, and red, white, and blue Jello-O cups
Sunday - Leftovers

On my 'to do' list...

Monday - Work, finish this post, WLMO movie night

Home Management Monday - June 22, 2020

Good Morning, Dear Ones! Happy First Monday of Summer!

I pray that your week and weekend were good and that the men in your life enjoyed a nice Father's Day.

Our week here was long. I worked a couple of extra days at work and, with Josh's death, I've spent a lot of time talking with Dorothy on the phone, praying, thinking, and trying to make sense of it all. It's been a very sad week to say the least. 😭

My husband had a nice Father's Day yesterday. He heard from all the kids and was treated to lunch at dd and sil's. We enjoyed a quiet evening at home and went for a walk.

I've got to head for work soon, so I'm going to cut this short and get right on into this week's post.

Morning Reflections in the Creek @ Prairie State Park
I awoke to...

... an early alarm, gray skies, and thoughts of the day ahead.

What I'm thinking...

... about how short life really is and how quickly things can change. Two people gone in eleven days...both young (47 and 25)...both unexpected...both tragic...both completely unnecessary. Don't take relationships for granted. Let people know they're important to you while you can because tomorrow might be too late. 😢

What I'm thankful for...

... my husband, our marriage, and the many blessings that God has bestowed upon us. We probably don't deserve any of it, but God has been overwhelmingly good to us and we thank Him for it! 💓

Queen Anne's Lace

On the breakfast plate...

... fat-free turkey slices, a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese, and an egg on toast with hot tea

The weather...

... right now it's 70 degrees and cloudy and we have decent chances for storms this afternoon. The week ahead looks warm and muggy.

This week's menu plan...

We have a lot going on this week, so I'm not too sure what we'll be doing about evening meals towards the end of the week. We have a lot of leftovers that need to be eaten up in the fridge and freezer and will be concentrating on getting rid of those throughout the week...especially at lunchtime.

Monday - Leftovers
Tuesday - Breakfast for supper
Wednesday - Turkey burgers and sweet potato fries
Thursday - ?
Friday - ?
Saturday - ?
Sunday - ?

Black-eyed Susan and Water Parsnip

On my 'to do' list...

Monday - Finish this post, work
Tuesday - Concentrate on kitchen work and food prep
Wednesday - Relax as much as possible and catch up on a few projects around the house
Thursday - Celebrate granddaughter, Esther's, birthday; lead evening hike at Battle of Island Mound State Historic Site
Friday - Clean house, do laundry, celebrate granddaughter, Hannah's, birthday
Saturday - Say good-bye to Josh 😢
