Happy Homemaker Monday - November 12, 2018

Good morning, Sweet Ladies! 💗 Happy Monday! 💗

I pray that this post finds you and yours healthy, happy, and getting ready for the holidays! Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week??? 🦃 Wow! Kind of snuck up on us there...didn't it??? (At least it did me!) 😲

So, how has your last week and weekend been? Ours has been good. The early part of the week was spent cleaning, running errands, and thinking about the upcoming holidays.

Got the end-of-year taxes paid and applied (and was finger-printed) for my conceal and carry permit on Monday. The sheriff said that I should get a call to come pick it up within the next 30 days.

We voted on Tuesday, took down the fall decorations, and brought in the rest of the Christmas stuff. My BFFF and I got together in the afternoon for prayer. Then, that evening, a neighbor joined John and I and we watched live election coverage on BVOVN. I worked on Christmas cards while we watched.

On Wednesday I continued to move towards holiday decorating. Other things came up, of course, so, thus far, I've only managed to get my mother's tree up. It's the small one with vintage decorations from childhood. It makes me happy and serves as a connection to me in keeping my mother's memory alive. Nestled between its branches is a picture of me and my mama at Christmastime long ago. 🎄

Me and My Mama One Christmastime Long Past

I worked Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Had so many people sign up for the "Wild Cats of Missouri" homeschool program that I had to divide them into two groups and do one program on Thursday and a second one on Friday.

Mountain Lion

Saturday turned out to be one of the most productive days EVER! I conducted a frost flower hike early that morning, then, miracle of miracles, I managed to get the rest of my programs all the way through December (four of them) figured out with outlines typed and all! Amazing! 😲

Sunday was spent preparing for the week ahead and getting ready for the impending snowstorm. John and I decided to serve a pre-Thanksgiving dinner after church on Sunday, so, yesterday afternoon, we ran to town to stock up on holiday foods. We bought a turkey and all the trimmings and oh! What fun it was!

In the afternoon, we ran up town to see the new building that the Lord has blessed our son-in-law and daughter with to house their new ministry in. We are excited for them and am anxious to see how the Lord uses them in the days ahead!

And now, it's Monday! It's time to move on into the new week! Today I'm joining Sandra and the other beautiful ladies over at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom for Happy Homemaker Monday. Won't you join me? 💗

Today I'm joining Sandra and the other beautiful ladies over at Diary of a

Stay at Home Mom for Happy Homemaker Monday. Wont' you join me?

Right now I am...

... finishing up breakfast and enjoying a steaming cup of hot tea while I work on this post. Am also watching the snow fall outside my office window. Absolutely beautiful! ❄❅❆

Am thinking...

... about the week ahead and next week, too. There's a lot happening between now and then and I've got to get organized. Am working on it and am hoping with a couple of snowy days and record lows, things will be quiet enough on the home-front so as I can really dig in and get a lot accomplished.

On the breakfast plate...

... chocolate chip and oat bran muffins, a scrambled egg, and Twining's Irish Breakfast tea

The weather...

... We are in the midst of real weather event here in southwest Missouri. In fact, we're under a winter weather advisory. We started off around 40 degrees at bedtime. Overnight, temperatures started dropping and now we're sitting at 30 degrees with a windchill of 20, but temperatures are expected to keep dropping throughout the day. By tonight it is estimated that we will be in the teens with a windchill in the single digits. Heavy snowfall will continue throughout the morning and into the early afternoon. We are already hitting record low temps for mid-November and what we're experiencing right now, we don't generally get until January. By the end of the week it looks like we'll rebound back up into the 40's and 50's for daytime highs with lows in the 20's and 30's. Next week looks promising with highs in the 50's and 60's. BUT, this is Missouri, so there are no guarantees!

Yep! That's just how it is! In the past week we've had sunny, warm, windy, icy, snowy, and cold...and, yes, I've worn my flip flops AND my snow boots (or at least the equivalent thereof) in one week or less! 😆 Missouri weather! Gotta love it! And I do! 💗
On my reading pile...

... Am still reading The Buffalo Train Ride by Desiree Morrison Webber, but am laying aside 5 Things Successful People Do Before 8 A.M. by Terri Savelle Foy (at least for now), in lieu of Dear Christmas Mothers by Connie Hultquist.

A friend of mine, Mrs. White, which happens to be the publisher of that book, asked me if I would be interested in doing a review and giveaway, to which, of course, I jumped on! (I LOVE doing giveaways!!!) So, be watching for details soon! 💗

On the menu this week...

Monday - sauteed zucchini, meatballs, sauce, and sprouted garlic bread
Tuesday - butternut squash soup, salad, and homemade bread
Wednesday - chili dogs and oven fries
Thursday - stuffed peppers, black bean, and corn
Friday - broiled salmon, baked potato, and green beans
Saturday - homemade pizza (freezer)
Sunday - turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce, refrigerator rolls, pumpkin pie, and cheesecake

On my 'to do' list...

- Monday - Plan the week ahead (and next week, too!), do my weekly "home blessing", laundry, make an appointment to get the oil changed in the car, get another room decorated for Christmas
- Tuesday - Turn on the Christmas music and keep moving forward on holiday prep (Thanksgiving and Christmas); fine-tune lists, complete and mark off as many items as I can while enjoying every minute of it! 💗
- Wednesday - 'Wild Cats of Missouri' library programs
- Thursday - Mid-month budget, bank, keep moving forward with the holidays
-Friday - Work
- Saturday - Work
- Sunday - Church; pre-Thanksgiving meal afterwards

In the craft basket...

... Nothing at the moment.

Looking forward to this week...

... Snowy days, holiday prep, and getting together with family and friends

Something interesting I watched this week...

... This video on frost flowers...

From the camera...

Our weather event is just getting started. Here's footage from just a few minutes ago (and between the time I took this video and shared this post, we've gotten at least another inch of snow and it's still coming down)...

Scripture passage...

Well, Ladies, that's it for this week! I pray that each and every one of you have a blessed and beautiful week ahead! And I'll see you next week!

Until Next Time...

  1. We're currently getting "moderate" snow up here. Weird weather. Funny you mentioned January. As I was taking my youngest to school, I made a comment that it looked like Christmas outside and he said, "no, it looks like January!" LOL. The title of the book you're reviewing already has me intrigued. Hope you and your family stay safe and warm on this weird, winter-y fall day. And of course, I hope you have an amazing week!

  2. Thanks, Jean! Yep! Looks like we're in for it this time! We're really just getting going and they're saying that we've already gotten over two inches. As you know, snows like this are unheard of at this time year here in Missouri...although I remember some very snowy Thanksgivings as a child. Interesting weather! Am determined to enjoy every minute of it while we've got it! I MIGHT venture out this afternoon to see if I can locate some snowy-backed bison out at the park. That would just make my day! :) You guys stay safe and and warm, too! Blessings for a great week ahead! <3

  3. LOVE he pictures of the frost flower and mountain lion! That flower is really interesting. You have sure been a busy bee - congratulations on getting so much done! Have a GREAT week and stay ahead of that winter weather advisory.

  4. Thanks, Tamy! You have a great week, too! Blessings! <3

  5. Never seen a frost flower - wow!
the mountain lion picture is great too.
Seems you are busy, so nice to see some Christmas stuff in there. Have a great week

  6. Frost flowers are beautiful, Lucie! Locally, I'm known as "the frost flower queen" as I love to educate people about them and take them out to see them. If you're ever in this part of the country at the right time, I'd be happy to show you one! :) Blessings for a great week ahead! <3

  7. you're getting what we had yesterday. Snowed all day and night, left us with about 4" accumulation but melting quickly today. Have a great week!

  8. That's probably about what we've gotten here today...4 inches or so...but I don't think it's going to melt off too quickly. Temps are supposed to drop into the teens tonight and the high is only going to be 30 tomorrow. 39 on Wednesday, so might do a little melting then, but by Thursday for sure. Blessings for a great week ahead! <3

  9. Hello dear friend.... whew I am tired just thinking of all you are accomplishing.. I need to really get on the stick today... talking about the holidays upon us.. we leave THursday to be with our kids to celebrate THanksgiving a week early and also Christmas... yes. this is our turn to do both together ... we did Christmas with them at their home last year... THis year both families leave THursday to meet up at a gorgeous home near Charleston, SC for a week. they fly.. we drive.. therefore we take all the linens, decor for two holidays, pantry items.Toddler gegaws - like booster seats, and potty step ups, bed rails, wrapped gifts, Christmas music, needless to say we will look like a caravan of gypsies traveling down the road... Are we packed.. uh, no.. We spent most of the day yesterday at the dr.. Hubs hasnt felt right for 2 weeks and we took our list of his malaise and issues only to find out he has Lymes Disease... so he certainly is not 100%.. but the battery of antibiotics will fix him right up... because of the torrential rains we've had here over the last month and all the leaves on the ground my allergies are going haywire.. so we are both moving pretty slowly... Your post inspired me to kick my you know what into action.... At least the laundry is done and Im mostly packed with my clothes so it is pantry work today.. you know all the stuff you might need to cook with so you do not have to buy every spice in the store... and other dry goods... but we only see our girls twice a year so I want our time to be special!!!!God bless and happy Thanksgiving....

  10. Hello, Schotzy! I don't feel that I accomplish all that much, but I'm sure glad to know that my post inspired you! Wow! You've only got a couple of days to go before you're off on your holiday adventure! Sounds WONDERFUL!!! Get your work done, then enjoy each and every moment of it! From sharing the holidays with your family! Sounds like a lot of work, yes, but, oh! The joy of it all! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas, my friend! Will be praying traveling mercies over you and your family, and over your husband as he recovers from this Lyme's disease. By Jesus' stripes he was (and is) healed (Isiah 53:5 and 1 Peter 2:24), in Jesus' name! Blessings for a wonderful week! <3
