Happy Homemaker Monday - December 17, 2018

Good morning, Sweet Ladies! Happy Monday! 💗

How was your week and weekend? Ours was good here!

I was able to work on several projects around the house during the early part of the week and worked at the park on Thursday and Saturday. Celebrated granddaughter, Mary's, birthday on Wednesday and my husband's birthday on Friday. We did a couple of things that we've wanted to do for a long time, including tracking down the grave of Urilla Earp (Wyatt Earp's wife; Wyatt was marshal of Lamar, Missouri at the time), then went out to lunch, and did a little Christmas shopping. It was a fun day! 💗💗

Urilla was pregnant with her and Wyatt's first child at the time of her death. She died of typhoid.
Can you believe that Christmas Eve is only a week away? Are you ready for it? Or are you still trying to finish up last minute details? Wherever you're at and whatever you've got left to do, just take one day at a time and enjoy every moment! After all, Christmas only comes but once a year! 😊

Here, of course, we had our family Christmas get-together earlier in the month when our youngest daughter and her husband could be here, but I'm so looking forward to the week ahead! Even though it tends to be a bittersweet week for me and there's a lot going on, this is still my favorite week of the year! 💗

Let's get started on this week's post, shall we?

Today I am joining Sandra and the other ladies over at Diary of a Stay At Home Mom for Happy Homemaker Monday. Please be sure to go over and check it out! 💗

Right now I am...

... taking a break, listening to Christmas music, eating breakfast, enjoying a cup of hot tea, and working on this post.

Am thinking...

... about today's to-do list.

On the breakfast plate...

... buckwheat pancakes with pumpkin butter and hot tea

The weather...

... is actually very nice...sunny and 31 degrees right now. The high today (and every day for the next week) is supposed to reach highs in the mid-50's with lows in the 40's. I'm sure not going to complain as this saves big bucks on the heating bill!

On my reading pile...

Am still reading The Great Buffalo Hunt by Wayne Gard, and Dear Kitchen Saints - Letters from an Iowa Housewife by Connie Hultquist, but am further along on both of them this week than I was last! 😉

On the menu this week...

Monday - turkey burgers and oven fries
Tuesday - Guatemalan red beans and rice (freezer)
Wednesday - shepherd's pie (freezer)
Thursday - turkey and wild rice soup
Friday - broiled salmon, mashed sweet potatoes, and brussel sprouts
Saturday - tuna patties, cheesy scalloped potatoes, and green beans
Sunday - leftovers

On my 'to-do' list...

Monday - Plan the week ahead, weekly "home blessing", laundry, wash bedding, candy making, dd and I's annual movie night with our friend, Sarah
Tuesday - Cookie baking and candy making; get together with my BFFF, Carla
Wednesday - Library programs (morning and afternoon)
Thursday - Take granddaughter, Sarah, out to lunch for her 8th birthday, finish up the last of my Christmas shopping
Friday - Work
Saturday - Work
Sunday - Church, attend candlelight service in the evening

In the craft basket...

Nothing at the moment, but here are some of the children and the prairie grass stars (that I showed you last week) that they made at the "A Very Prairie Christmas" program on Friday.

In addition to getting to make, and take home, a star, each child received a tin cup, a stick of red and white striped peppermint candy, and a shiny (not so new) penny...just (almost) like Laura and Mary in Little House on the Prairie! I think they enjoyed it! And they were all so cute! 💗

Loved this little guy in his coon-skin cap! 💗
Looking forward to this week...

... Getting together with friends and family throughout the week, celebrating granddaughter, Sarah's, birthday, finishing up my Christmas shopping, baking cookies, and making candy.

Something interesting I watched this week...

Can't think of anything interesting that I watched, but I can tell you about something interesting that happened this week. I ran into our oldest daughter-in-law up town the other day and she asked if I was going to be home in a bit. I said yes and she said that she was going to be coming by. She had been to a thrift store and found some Christmas dishes in the same pattern as the dishes I had found at a different thrift store a couple of weeks before. Here is some of what she brought me...

Then, lo, and behold! When John and I were out on his birthday, I found the oval platter, big serving bowl, and salt and pepper shakers to match! I couldn't believe it!!! It's like what in the world? Guess I was meant to have it...huh? (Thank you, God! What a blessing! I can't wait to use it all on Christmas Eve!) 💓

From the camera...

Granddaughter, Mary, and I When Out to Lunch For Her Birthday
Scripture passage...

Well, Ladies, that's it for this week! I pray that each and every one of you have a blessed and beautiful week ahead, and I'll see you next week! Blessings!

  4. You do have a lot going on and it Is all great. Love, love the dishes.. yes, I do know that God works out things like that. Last year I was sad that the Fransican Apple dishes I got from my mother had 4 cups and saucers missing. One day after meeting a friend out for breakfast I was driving home and something told me as I drove past a consignment shop to stop ...there was something there just for me. Naturally, I stopped and went as I always would right off to the dining table exhibits to see the dishes and glasswear. And there it was... 4 cups and saucers of the apple dishes and they altogether were just $8.00. I was over the moon and knew it was supernatural and I left praising God for his tender mercy! Have a blessed and Merry Christmas!

  7. Thanks for sharing your dish story with me, Schotzy! What an amazing God we serve and to be led to the exact pattern of cups and saucers you were needing and the exact number! What a blessing! <3

Thanks, Kristina! You have a great week, too! <3

And, Heather...yes, I made the pumpkin butter back in November (there is a post with my recipe...super simple to make) and, yes! I got a little nervous when I saw Jean's comment on it. I have NO idea why I thought Saturday night was Christmas Eve when I was writing that! I guess it was a moment of temporary insanity! Jimney Christmas and arrghhh! LOL! Have a Merry Christmas! :)
