Happy Homemaker Monday - December 3, 2018

Good morning, Sweet Ladies! Happy First Monday of December! 💗

How was your week and weekend? Ours was good here with lots going on.

On Tuesday I presented the last of my Wild Cats of Missouri programs. This was the fifth one (I really tried to take advantage of the wild cat trunk while I had it) and it was geared more towards an adult audience. The program dealt with things more along the line of what to do if you encounter a mountain lion in the wild and stuff like that. It was a good program with good attendance.

Wednesday was grocery shopping day with a friend and, on Thursday, John and I went with daughter, Amber, to the bulk goods store in Butler, Missouri to stock up on winter baking supplies and holiday spices. While there we went to a thrift store and, among other things, I found twelve of these lovely poinsettia plates for only 75 cents each. (That's cheaper than the dollar store! 😲) I purchased all twelve of them. 😊

I worked Friday at Prairie and, on Saturday, John and I helped with Christmas on the Farm where our daughter, Amanda, works at Watkins Woolen Mill near Lawson, Missouri. It was a lot of fun...BUT...I'm glad to finally be slowing down a bit to focus my attention on the home-front, because I've got a lot to do this week! (As do we all, I'm sure!) 😊

Shall we get started?

Today I am joining Sandra and the other ladies over at Diary of a Stay At Home Mom for Happy Homemaker Monday. Please be sure to go over and check it out! 💗

Right now I am...

...finishing up breakfast and enjoying a cup of hot tea as I work on this post. I am also listening to the stillness that comes with early morn and am enjoying the peacefulness of it.

Am thinking...

...about the week ahead. There is much to do as Christmas with our children and their families is coming up on Saturday. Our oldest daughter and her husband always host the event at their home, but there is still a lot to do on my end (everyone's ends to be sure!), but there are gifts to wrap, the putting together of the children's goody-bags, food to prepare, and I have yet to figure out the details of the gift-exchange game that we are playing this year. Our youngest daughter and her husband will be down Friday to spend the night, so there are things to do to get ready for that, too. It's always a lot of fun, but I also need a well-organized plan! 😉

On the breakfast plate...

...baked cinnamon-apple toast, Triple 0 vanilla yogurt, and a steaming hot cup of Twinings Irish Breakfast Tea.

The weather...

...cold and cloudy...31 degrees at the moment with a windchill of 22. The high today is supposed to reach 37 degrees and there is a slight chance of rain or snow showers throughout the day. The week ahead looks about the same...cold with better chances of snow toward week's end (80% on Saturday). ⛄

On my reading pile...

I finished Introduction to Home Economics by Mrs. Sharon White, but am still reading The Great Buffalo Hunt by Wayne Gard. I'm only reading this one at work in my spare time, so it's going to take me a l-o-n-g time to work my way through it. 😳

And, Ladies, there's still time to enter the drawing for a free copy of Dear Christmas Mothers by Connie Hultquist. To find out more, click HERE. One random winner will be chosen TOMORROW (December 4th), so, please, hurry and get your name in!

Friday - broiled salmon with baked sweet potatoes and green beans
Saturday - pot-luck @ family Christmas get-together (I'm taking soup, bread, and a couple of desserts)

On my 'to-do' list...

Monday - Plan the week ahead, do my weekly "home blessing"laundry, figure the December budget, pay bills, and do the banking
Tuesday - Wrap gifts and work towards getting things ready for our family Christmas get-together
Wednesday - Continue working towards family Christmas
Thursday - Cook what I can ahead for family Christmas and wash bedding
Friday - Work; daughter and son-in-law will arrive in the evening and be here overnight 😍
Saturday - Finish up last minute stuff in the morning; attend family Christmas get-together with our children, their spouses, and the grands in the evening
Sunday - Church

In the craft basket...

Christmas stars made of prairie grasses for upcoming programs at work. The stars are made of big bluestem and Indian grass that has been dried and cut into six-inch lengths, and, then, are lashed together with brightly colored embroidery thread. I will try to remember to get pictures of them to post next week.

Looking forward to this week...

Spending time with our children, their spouses, and the grands at our family Christmas get-together on Saturday. 🎄

Something interesting I watched this week...

The lighting of the plum pudding at Watkins Woolen Mill where our youngest daughter, Amanda, works. Our friend, Beth, from the Truman Birthplace is holding the plate, while Amanda flames the pudding.

From the camera...

The Centerpiece on the Watkins Table at Christmas on the Farm 2018

Beyond the table, and through the window, you can see the open doorway of the summer kitchen where, night-before-last, visitors were served cups of steaming hot cider and wassail after getting a cookie or two on their way out the back kitchen. A good time was enjoyed by all! 💗
Scripture passage...

Well, Ladies, that's it for this week! I pray that each and every one of you have a blessed and beautiful week ahead, and I'll see you next week! Blessings!

Until next time,
~Rebecca

  6. Thanks, Ladies!

Shellie - I did have a lovely week...one with a lot of activity. Now I need to get busy, but I'm having trouble getting up and getting going. I just want to rest. LOL! And, yes, the centerpiece on the Watkins' table is my favorite thing of all...that and Father Christmas! He is in the livingroom giving out oranges and taking photos with all the visitors. Am glad you made it by today! It's been good visiting with you a bit. Blessings for a great week ahead! <3

Jean - Yes, I know you would really enjoy it. There are so many things to see and do. It really is an amazing place! And it's great any time of year, but Christmastime is extra special! Perhaps next year, my friend! <3

Tamy - Thanks! The plates are beautiful and I was so excited to find them! I have four plates with Christmas trees on them that my youngest daughter bought me years ago, but, with such a large family, I have been wanting to get more Christmas-themed dishes to use on Christmas Eve. Not all the children and their families are able to join us then, but some of them usually end up coming and joining John and I for our traditional candlelight Christmas Eve lasagna...and, if not the children, then friends and family members...there's always someone here. I still may not have enough plates for everyone, but I'm a lot further down the road than I was...that's for sure! LOL! As for the woolen mill, if you ever get the chance, do it! There is a huge park there! They have a lake, campground, a school, church, the visitor's center, the Watkins family cemetery, and, of course, the house and mill. About 85% of the furnishings in the house are original and it's really all quite interesting. I know you'd enjoy it!

Lucy - I will try to remember to get pics of the stars and post them next week. They're really very pretty! Very old-fashioned, too! And, yes, I wish you could come to a wild cat program, too. It would be wonderful to meet and visit with you in person! And, yes, the dishes were a real bargain. I got another bargain, too, but I'll share more about that later. Have a blessed week ahead, my friend! <3
